Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) is a tunneling protocol developed by Cisco, allowing the encapsulation of a wide variety of network layer protocols inside point-to-point links. It creates a private connection that is secure and direct between two network nodes, enabling data to be transferred seamlessly.
