The Advanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS) is an analog mobile phone system standard developed by Bell Labs, and officially introduced in the Americas in 1983. It uses frequency division multiple access (FDMA) to provide voice services and was the primary analog mobile phone system in North America until the introduction of digital cellular systems.
